Huawei and Qualcomm sign multi-year patent license agreementHuawei and Qualcomm announced a multi-year patent license agreement with cross licenses covering 5G, compute, AI and networking, along with Qualcomm's purchase of certain Huawei U.S. patents, Reuters reported Oct. 5. Reuters reported it is Huawei's first patent licensing deal with Qualcomm that includes 5G and that Huawei expects its total patent licensing deal value to reach "more than $6.9 billion once completed."
First of 125 L.A. speed cameras switch on Oct. 26The first set of Los Angeles automated speed cameras will be running on Oct. 26, with the goal of having all 125 cameras, authorized by the City Council across all 15 council districts, activated before the end of the year, MyNewsLA reported. Each camera starts with a 60-day warning period; after that, a first violation for 11 to 15 mph over the limit gets a warning and later ones get civil violations starting at $50, while 16 mph or more over brings a violation starting at $100, according to the report. LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo said: "Speed safety systems have proven to be among the most effective tools we have to reduce dangerous speeding, prevent crashes and save lives."
Bouquet Fire reaches 48% containmentContainment of the Bouquet Fire in the Angeles National Forest northeast of Santa Clarita "moved up to 48% as of this evening" Sunday, with updated mapping at 1,048 acres, MyNewsLA reported. Angeles National Forest officials said: "Firefighters made good progress along the southern end of the fire perimeter today." Bouquet Canyon Road was closed from Spunky Canyon Road to Vasquez Canyon, and a shelter was opened at the Ryan M. Clinkunbroomer Castaic Sports Complex, 31230 Castaic Road, according to the report.
Ferdinand Lane on WSU Pullman campus closes Oct. 6 to 9Ferdinand Lane between Northeast Stadium Way and Fairway Lane will close from 6 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, through 5 p.m. Oct. 9, WSU Insider reported. WSU said staff found "water entering an electrical vault at the intersection during Avista utility work," and crews will investigate and repair a suspected water line leak. Drivers are asked to use the marked detour via Fairway Lane and Northeast North Fairway Road.

Yemen: Saudi-led coalition says 100 jets backing government offensiveForces of Yemen's internationally recognized government began a major offensive Monday against the Houthis on the Red Sea coast, and Saudi-led coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki said 100 fighter jets were providing support, the AP reported. The National reported the coalition said it destroyed 324 "high-value" Houthi targets and Yemeni government forces said they seized positions around the Bab al-Mandeb strait, claims the paper said "could not immediately be independently verified."
